The GCS Art classes are designed to spark your interest in different media. In class we use charcoal, pencils, watercolors, acrylics, colored pencils, clay, markers, and so much more. The classes that are offered are Art 1, 2, and 3, Art History, Art Appreciation, Photography, Art Medium and Yearbook. Art 1 introduces our students to the different techniques used in sketching. We explore the use of different drawing pencils and charcoal. In Art 2 we experiment with the use of different types of paint to create an exciting piece of artwork. We have worked with oil, water colors, acrylics, and tempera paints. Art 3 and Studio Art are the highest levels offered; in these classes while the students work at their own pace on projects under guidance from the teacher. The History of Art is one of the most fascinating areas to study. Did you know that paint by numbers originated during the Renaissance and that graffiti was created in Ancient Greece? Art Appreciation explores the different styles of art, from Gothic to Impressionism. We are honored in the art department to produce the yearbook. Several students and I work diligently throughout the year to complete the yearbook. Photography is a great form of science. The history behind photography is amazing; this is something we explore in photography class, along with studying the insides and out of a camera and how to take the perfect picture. Last, but most definitely not least, we have elementary art. This is an exciting time for elementary students to be introduced to the color wheel and different artists.
