Drama

The performing arts program at GCS provides many opportunities for our students. We offer music and drama classes along with the opportunity to participate in plays, musicals, and an ensemble group.

Our elementary students perform a musical every year directed by our music teacher, Michael Stuart. High school students can participate in an ensemble group that performs weekly for our chapel services.

Every fall our high school students perform a straight play on the stage in our auditorium. Fall shows are directed by our drama teacher, Angela Hildebrand. Some past shows include The Diary of Anne Frank, Pride and Predjudice, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Mousetrap.

Our annual spring musical is a large scale production. Mr. Stuart and Mrs. Hildebrand work together with our Fine Arts Director, Scott Hildebrand and a fantastic creative team to make our musicals come to life on the stage! We perform these shows at the beautiful, historic Mishler Theatre in downtown Altoona. Beauty and the Beast, Annie, The Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins are just a few of the shows we have performed over the last decade.

At GCS we believe that participating in the performing arts is an enriching experience for our students. We strive for excellence in every performance.

GCS participates in the annual Isaac Awards competition and has been nominated for several awards including two best show nominations.
